Community Centre
We are happy to provide a safe, welcoming, modern community space for our visitors,
with long-standing tenants plus well-established local groups on site.
What is Chain Lane Community Centre?
The charity, Chain Lane Community Hub, purchased the community centre in 2010 when it was under risk of closure. Since that time the community centre has had a full refurbishment and now, not only provides valuable spaces to hire for a wide range of community activities, but also provides a home for a number of important community organisations:
- Chain Lane Community Hub
- Better Connect
- Harrogate Islamic Association
- Cliff House Community Support Services
- Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust
This was made possible by a grant and loan mix from the Social Investment Business. Money raised from hiring the rooms enables us to pay the monthly loan, maintain the spaces to a high standard and covers the staffing cost for our part-time Community Centre Manager.
We also provide registered office and meeting spaces for the following local groups:
- Knaresborough Community Energy
- Knaresborough Community Land Trust
- Knaresborough Relief in Needs
We have gone Green!
To address rising energy costs and the challenges of inefficient, old systems, we partnered with Energy Oasis who are a local business and experienced in securing funding and delivering energy-saving solutions.
By accessing £76,598.48 through the VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme by Groundwork UK, we were able to upgrade critical systems, including intelligent LED lighting, solar PV panels, intelligent heating controls, and battery storage.
This was an incredible investment not only into our sustainability and environment, but for the future of the centre. Find out more here

We also make the most of the land that we have access, boasting a new community garden. Our Volunteer gardeners tend to our garden, planting vegetables that are available to the community in summer.
