Ageing Well Knaresborough
The Ageing Well service aims to support residents in the Knaresborough town and rural areas, over the age of 65, to live their best life possible. It helps people to engage with community life whilst staying independent for longer.
Our work (or mission) follows the NHS 5 steps to well-being:
- Connect with people – this is through a wide range of activities and groups including coffee mornings and educational events. We can also introduce residents to activities that run from Chain Lane as well as those that run in other venues around the town.
- Be physically active – being active is vital for physical and mental health. It is also fun, sociable and can include coming to a class or group or joining in with active interests such as gardening.
- Learn new skills – we can sign-post residents to a range of activities that can help introduce new and meaningful activities. This can often mean meeting others with similar interests. It may include craft or art activities for example.
- Give to others – we know that acts of giving and kindness are important for emotional well-being, so can help residents who may have skills which they can share with others through volunteering.
- Paying attention to the present moment – we know that mindfulness can help people enjoy life more and can positively change the way that we deal with challenges. We can sign-post people to activities which increase awareness of this.
We also work with residents to ensure that they are claiming all tier entitlements to maximise their income. This can open doors to help resident to access activities.
